Having touched the grounds of Alternative Rock through Blur and Electro-Pop with Gorillaz, Damon Albarn strikes again with a “super group” project called “The Good, The Bad & The Queen”. The group boasts the talent of Albarn on vocals, former Verve guitarist Simon Tong, The Clash’s Paul Simonon on bass, Africa 70 drummer Tony Allen as well as producer Danger Mouse. The concept behind the album is the modern lifehood in London. The sonority of the album can be categorized into Alternative-Rock with some elements of, hold your breath, Brit-Pop. While TGTB&TQ’s frontman is clearly Albarn, having written all songs, the musical vision really came from Brian Burton aka Danger Mouse. Albarn & Burton worked together on the second Gorillaz album and Albarn as amazed by Danger Mouse’s musical vision and let him somewhat of a “carte blance” for this project.
Danger Mouse has, of lately, been occupied by the succes of his collaboration with Goodie Mob’s Cee-Lo as part of Gnarls Barkley. More on Burton’s upcoming projects are a collaboration album with Def Jux MC Murs as weel as a “rumoured to be” album with The Roots’ frontman Black Thought.Be sure to be advised whenever those projects will take form.
