Mos Def

Veteran rapper and established actor Mos Def will be releasing his third solo album next tuesday. The album titled “Tru3 Magic” has long been due and post-poned due to both marketing and legal issues.Back in september, Dante Smith (Mos Def) staged a performance outside of the Radio City Hall where the MTV Video Music Awards were ongoing. Rapping about the Katrina hurricane actions that were or were not taken, the police shut down his set and arrested him. Although the New York Police later stated the fact that the arrest was due to the lack of a permit for the performance, we can witness the hostility reserved to Mos Def and his affiiates. Here is the video“Tru3 Magic” was due out that same month but the whirlwind of controversy surrounding the arrest of Smith pushed it back further every few weeks, leading to the release date officially scheduled on december 19th. The album reserves a much more conservative sound opposed to Mos Def’s 2004 LP “The New Danger” which exposed his rock band Black Jack Johnson.
