Stranger Than Fiction

Stranger Than Fiction Week #1

Welcome to the first week of Stranger Than Fiction. Let’s get right down to it. It’s old news but I want to talk about it anyway.

CKY

June 27, 2004, CKY was playing a show in Burlington Vermont. Guitarist & vocalist Deron Miller had a meltdown on stage and walked off. Four days later, Deron left a comment on the CKY Alliance website claiming drug and alcohol problems were the reason he walked off stage.

Then comes the rest of it. For those familiar with CKY, Deron’s side project World Under Blood has been a bit of a distraction for the band. Guitarist Chad I. Ginsburg and drummer Jess Margera apparently took some jabs at Deron, saying he was constantly hitting the refresh button on the browser while on the WUB MySpace page. Point being they think Deron is taking the WUB situation a bit too seriously. So apparently this lead to some physical violence and tour bus trashing.

This lead to Deron being kicked out of the band. Or did he quit? Well, the story isn’t exactly clear. Chad and Jess say Deron quit. Deron said he never quit the band. Deron, Jess [and bass player Matt Deis] continued to tour while Deron went to rehab. Chad managed to injure himself on a following tour stop and the tour ended.

Internet words were exchanged over CKY & World Under Blood pages and then nothing. The CKY camp has been relatively quiet as of late. The band has more or less not commented on the situation on their infamous “Ask CKY” page.

Now, my take on all this is the following. The band has just got off Island records, they’ve got a bass player they’re satisfied with, they’ve signed to Roadrunner Records and they’re (were?) working on a 4th studio album. I’d like to see them pull it together, put out this record and keep going. I’ve enjoyed listening to CKY over the last few years and it shouldn’t end. At least not like this anyway.

Alright, now that I’ve got that out of the way, let’s get to this. The world of music is insane sometimes and weird things happen. So, I’m introducing this weekly feature…

THE BEST OF THE WORST

50 Cent, Timbaland, Wyclef Jean, Mary J. Blige and producer Tyler Perry have been linked to steroids, similar to professional wrestling. The only reason I’m writing about this is because I’m wondering why it even matters? Does steroids improve the quality of music? I don’t think so. At least not where these artists are concerned. If you want to read up on it more, check it out here.

Bjork attacked a paparazzo in Auckland, New Zealand. Well, alright. Not really attack. The photographer got his shirt torn. Poor you. Leave Bjork alone and keep your shirt intact.

Music-News.com is reporting that Britney Spears is threatening suicide. I don’t care about details in this story. If she does it, good riddence. If we posted all the news about Brintey Spears here, we’d be bigger than The PRP. The rest of the story is here.

Alright, that’s it for now. Thanks for reading and remember, sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
